Un modèle d'exception pour ce nouveau post. L'un des rares capables de garder la pose et la même expression sur 10 images… Un véritable atout ! D'ailleurs, je pense lui réserver une place de choix sur ce blog.

Pour cette série, j'avais besoin d'un modèle et d'un assistant. C'est beaucoup demander. J'ai donc dû me passer de la moitié du staff. Heureusement, Auré a accepté de jouer les deux rôles.

Un shooting éprouvant donc, pour lui comme pour moi, car il fallait cumuler les postes et courir d'un coin à l'autre pour prendre la pose avant que le retardateur ne termine sa course et déclenche. Sur la séance et un set de 4 m de large, on a bien dû parcourir 3 km chacun. Une belle performance donc pour les grands sportifs que nous sommes, véritables athlètes, mais plutôt dans la discipline "100 m divan".

La photo en tête de post a été tirée sous un pont à proximité d'un chemin de halage interdit à la circulation, ce qui nous permettait de profiter d'une certaine tranquillité sans courir le risque d'effrayer les automobilistes pressés, qui auraient pu confondre nos éclairs avec ceux générés par les joujoux de la maréchaussée.

Setup et schéma d'éclairage

En ce qui concerne le setup, trois flashes ont été utilisés. Le SB600 équipé d'un parapluie en shoot-thru à 1/5 éclaire Auré à l'avant-plan. Il se trouve à droite de l'appareil. Un SB900 nu à pleine puissance est placé devant le personnage dont la silhouette athlétique (le lecteur aura compris qu’il s’agit de celle de votre serviteur) se trouve à gauche sur la photo.

Plusieurs essais ont été nécessaires pour arriver à ce résultat, notamment pour déterminer la position du flash qui permettrait d'obtenir l'ombre recherchée, ni trop grande, ni trop petite. Ensuite, il a fallu installer un écran sur le côté droit du flash pour éviter de projeter également l'ombre d'Auré sur le mur. Un morceau de carton a fait l’affaire.

Après quelques essais avec mon modèle/assistant visant à définir la position du parapluie et du flash éclairant l'arrière-plan (v. ci-dessous), il restait à définir celle du dernier qui assurerait la projection de l'ombre. Auré est donc passé en mode "Assistant" pendant que j'effectuais les tests et les réglages.

Puisqu'il nous restait un peu de temps avant de se faire arroser par la pluie, nous en avons profité pour faire une petite série de portraits réalisés avec un flash et un parapluie.

Here’s a great model you’ll probably see around on this blog. He’s one of the very few able to keep the same expression for 10 frames. A real asset then!

For this shoot I needed a model and an assistant. That’s much to ask. I only had half the staff at hand. Lucky me, Aure accepted to play both parts.

That was a pretty tiring shooting, for him and for me, as we both had to play several parts and run from one point of the set to the next to get in position before the timer shot the camera. During the shooting, with a 4m wide set, we must have ran about 3 km each. A fairly good performance for the great sportsguys we are, real athletes in the «sofa» category.

The first picture has been taken under a bridge near a towpath where cars are not allowed. We could easily fire the strobes without scaring the drivers who could have mistaken our flashes for the police’s toys.

As for the setup, I used three strobes:
– a SB600 with an shoot-thru umbrella @1/5 camera right as main light for Aure;
– a bare SB900 @ full power casts an athletic shadow on the wall (you would probably have understood that it’s yours truly’s);
– a third strobe @1/64 is targeting the wall to hide Aure’s shadow produced from the second strobe.

A few tests were needed to get the result and the shadow I was looking for, not too big, not too small. Besides, I had to use a handmade flag, sticking a cardboard on the right side of the SB900 so that it couldn’t cast Auré’s shadow on the wall.

After a few tests with my model/assistant to get the right position for the umbrella and the strobe for the background (see above), I still had to place the one for the shadow. Aure switched to «Assistant» mode while I was setting flashes and camera.

We still had some time left before it started raining. We made a few more shots, portait-style with a strobe and an umbrella.
